Aberdeenshire

Aberdeenshire

Whilst sharing common features with the megalithic culture of the rest of Britain, unique to Aberdeenshire is the Recumbent Stone Circle (RSC). The main feature of these circles is the very large stone lying, unsurprisingly, on its side as the focal point of the circles. This 'recumbent' is usually set between two tall 'flankers', one at either end. However, when you have visited several of these sites, also apparent is the builders use of different coloured stone, choice of site and sense of aesthetic, which  is still apparent thousands of years later.
